I’m being really annoying saying this…but, Lucius was just trying to quickly get rid of the diary because of the raids that were going on, looking for dark artifacts and what not. He couldn’t sell it at Borgin and Burke’s because he didn’t really know what it was, but knew it belonged to Voldemort…yeah.
